I wish I could say that making the appointment was extremely planned out, but it wasn’t. Rich and I were in bed on Sunday and he told me that we should go to the tattoo parlor near my school to set up an appointment. I kind of didn’t want to do it at first, but he wouldn’t let it go. His reasoning: the decision isn’t rash, I’ve wanted a tattoo for a very long time, I know exactly what I want and where I want it, I have the money for it, etc, etc, etc. Well, I got super excited and decided that we should, in fact, go to the parlor set up the appointment.
Voila!
Now to tell you what I’m getting!
I decided to go with one of my more recent tattoo decisions. I’m getting a sugar skull on the back of my right shoulder!
For those of you who don’t know what a sugar skull is, I have provided a few examples:

I have a few requests for the overall design… and I have a few things that I would like a creative opinion on. So far, I know that: I want my skull to be feminine and non-scary; I want the skull shape to be less realistic and more cartoon-y; I don’t think I want teeth—instead, I would like for her to have a flirty looking smile; I don’t want it to be too “busy” with a bunch of extra embellishments on the skull; and I want lots of pink, red, and maybe some teal thrown in there.
Not many people know that I actually decided that I’m getting a tattoo. I mean, it’s not something that you mention in a casual conversation. Hey, by the way, I’m getting a permanent piece of art put on my back! Plus, I don’t want to announce it to everyone that I know. It really isn’t anyone’s business but my own. (Of course, that’s kind of counter-intuitive, considering that I’m blogging about it, but whatever.)
The only problem that I foresee is my mother’s reaction. I don’t want to wait until I show up at her house in May for her to happen to come across the bright skull on my back! But I also don’t want to tell her because she’ll try, and probably succeed, in talking me out of it. So, I’m kind of stuck. HELP?
But I wanted to share my awesome news because I’m very proud of myself for finally going after something that I want! It’ll be great to know that my journey through ink has finally begun.
Any tattooed people want to share some ink with me? Comment below or send me an email at karidelgado18@hotmail.com. I love most of the world of body modification. I just can’t enough.
XOXO
Karina
